Description: Ginetta G40 Body Panels & Adjustment

Ginetta G40 panels are made of gel-coated fiberglass, with the exception of the Junior cars from 2018 which have carbon-fibre door skins. The main body shell is bolted and glued onto the frame and can't be adjusted. Adjustments are only possible on the panels that fit onto the main shell: doors, boot lid and clamshell / bonnet.

Boot and adjustment points

You may find that the latch / locking mechanism for the boot doesn't work. You can adjust the fit with the three bolts on the bracket fitted to the body. Use a 3 mm Hex / Allen key.

The 200-litre boot and passenger space are good for a tool box, trolley jack, fluids and a few 5-litre fuel cans, so it's feasible to use the G40 as a club car, driving to the track if you keep it road-legal.

Door weakness & adjustment

Be very careful with the doors and don't lean on them, as the lower hinge mounting will probably crack in the door. You can only fix a cracked hinge mounting by removing the door and finding a way to re-strengthen it - see what we did in Procedure: Ginetta G40 Door Hinge Repair.

If the door is not closing, the best way to adjust it is to move the latch-receiving pin on the body.

To move the latch pin, remove the rear road wheel and reach up inside the wheel arch to loosen the two 13mm nuts.

Door removal

Remove the door by unbolting the two pins / bolts that sit vertically  through the hinges.

Clamshell / bonnet & pins

The bonnet / clamshell is held down by two AeroCatch hood pins. The pins can break, such as from an off-track excursion. You can get replacements from Ginetta, or direct from Tegiwa. They come in pairs.
