Description: Ginetta G40 Frame, Body & Panels

Frame & main body shell

The G40 is built around a tubular frame (T45 tubular chassis and integral safety cage built to FIA standards). The main body shell is bolted and glued onto the frame and can't be adjusted. Adjustments are only possible on the panels that fit onto the main shell: doors, boot lid and clamshell / bonnet.

As far as I understand, the tubular frame is a heavier gauge for GRDC and G40R (road-legal) cars than the G40 Junior and GT5 cars. The Ginetta website quotes the GRDC / Cup as 840 kg, Junior as 830 kg and GT5 as 815 kg. See my page Description: Ginetta G40 Power to Weight, where the GRDC weight is measured at 915 kg.

Ginetta G40 panels are made of gel-coated fiberglass, with the exception of the Junior cars from 2018 which have carbon-fibre door skins.

Door removal

Remove the door by unbolting the two pins / bolts that sit vertically  through the hinges.

Clamshell / bonnet & pins

The bonnet / clamshell is held down by two AeroCatch hood pins. The pins can break, such as from an off-track excursion. You can get replacements from Ginetta, or direct from Tegiwa. They come in pairs.

Boot / trunk / club car

200-litre boot space.
