Fix a Boot (Trunk) Catch on a Mercedes CLK 230 (e.g. year 2000 model)
The boot catch fails regularly on my CLK 230, so that I can't get into the boot / trunk. I can push in the button for the boot lock, but it won't open the catch. Here's my simple fix.
Crawl into the boot from the inside of the car, after lowering the rear seats. Remove the small, rectangular panel that covers the catch. Push a small screwdriver into each side of the catch mechanism and lever lightly to the side. This should be enough to free off the catch mechanism. You should be able to operate the catch as normal when testing from the outside.
